Conference Miscellanea
(05/15/18)
By Scott Ball, ACI Membership & Communications Chair
The theme of this year’s ACI Conference is “Connecting the Dots: An Integrated Communications Approach.” Conference Coordinator Heather Feeler and the staff at the Missouri Department of Conservation are hard at work planning a slate of world-class speakers, engaging topics, educational sponsors, exciting outdoor experiences and a chance to see some of Springfield’s best attractions. From our hotel, it’s an easy walk to local restaurants, retail shops and the Springfield Cardinals Stadium.
The ACI website has the agenda, plus all the information and links you need to register ($325), reserve your room ($89/night, breakfast included) and even convince your boss how important it is for you to attend.
As Kim mentioned in her column, we will elect new Board members at this year’s conference. We also will elect a new slate of officers to serve two-year terms. Historically, the President is succeeded by the Vice President, who is succeeded by the Secretary, where a vacancy will be created. Eligibility requirements are the same as those for a Board member, and the advice to consult with your supervisor applies as well.
Another important conference activity is the annual ACI Auction – an important and entertaining fund-raiser for ACI. Now’s the time to gather up an assortment of agency SWAG and donated merchandise to contribute to the auction. Or take it a step further – put together and donate a trip, guided hunting or fishing adventure, state park stay or other excursion. For details or questions, contact Auction Chair Jenifer Wisnewski.
Have you applied for a Geoffrey Schneider Travel Scholarship? The scholarship, worth roughly $700, covers conference registration and four nights’ lodging. Deadline to apply is May 25. Visit aci-net.org/conferences/scholarships/ for details.
