President’s Column – Opportunity for Any State to Help Save America’s Fish & Wildlife
(05/15/20)
By Jenifer Wisniewski, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency
Recently, The Alliance for America’s Fish & Wildlife (Alliance) launched a T-shirt initiative to help fund the passage of The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA), the legislation needed to prevent more than 12,000 species of fish and wildlife from becoming endangered. Having just launched with The Wildlife Society to help spread the word, the Alliance is rolling out a means for people to help fund conservation without stepping outside their homes.
Wildlife enthusiasts, hunters and anglers can now show their support for and invest in the passage of this bill by purchasing a 100% recycled T-shirt from RecoverWildlife.com for $25. Purchases directly support the conservation of fish and wildlife and their habitats in every state in the U.S.
In Tennessee, we are gearing up to offer this through a couple of our communication channels. And we are linking it to information on RAWA that establishes a 21st century funding model for the proactive conservation of fish and wildlife. The bill will redirect $1.3 billion in existing revenues to state fish and wildlife agencies to implement our wildlife action plans, and an additional $97.5 million to tribal wildlife managers to conserve species on tribal lands and waters.
Passing this legislation would be a game changer for us all, and support from states will help to get it across the finish line.
