President’s Message – Must be present to win

I have a colleague who is fond of the saying “must be present to win.” What he means is that to get the photo, the video or the quote, you’ve got to be where the story is taking place. I think that as communicators we are all storytellers. Some try to tell their agency’s story through the written word, others through video, graphics or social media.
Because we can all benefit from learning new ways to communicate our story, I encourage you to attend this year’s ACI Conference in Indiana. The theme is “storytelling,” and our hosts have created an agenda that you don’t want to miss. “Digital Storytelling,” Telling the Story of Hunting to a Variety of Audiences,” “Storytelling and Photojournalism” – these are just a few of the sessions planned.
If you need more than an agenda to convince your boss to let you attend, we’ve placed an approval letter on the ACI conference web page. You can modify it to fit your needs, but it should help persuade your boss that you will get valuable training and fresh ideas by attending.
I hope to see you at Brown County State Park July 9-13. Remember – must be present to win!
